UK Trauma Council

The UKTC brings together experts in childhood trauma to improve understanding, support, and outcomes for children and young people across the UK.

Together we created an animation raising awareness of traumatic bereavement in young people.

Helping Make Sense of Loss

The UK Trauma Council brought us in to create an animation that speaks to the heart of traumatic bereavement in young people - a challenge only heightened by the pandemic

As part of a toolkit for professionals working with grieving children, the film uses visual storytelling to gently guide difficult conversations, making complex emotions and experiences easier to approach and understand.

While the full film was designed as a practical tool, this cut focuses on the most visually rich moments - snippets that show how animation can support sensitive topics with clarity and care.

Shades of Emotion

This gallery shows how we used colour and texture as visual cues for emotional shifts. In moments of distress, colour drains from the frame, and textures become harsher. Lines turn loose, sketchy, and unsettled. As the story moves toward safety and support, colour gently returns, and the drawings resolve into cleaner, more stable forms. These stylistic changes were designed to mirror the inner world of the characters and help viewers intuitively feel the emotional landscape.
